As the temperature of the warmer months rise, so too does many of our tempers. When the body gets too hot, it affects your whole entire being.
It becomes more difficult to concentrate, to focus, and everything you attempt to do seems impossible to cope with as it all seems like it is all falling apart right before your very eyes. It almost feels like, everything you do or say is all going wonky. Then you snap !!! The landslide begins and it's all downhill from there.
We refer to this as the "Summertime Slide"
You can learn to have less of these Summertime Slides, or at the very least,
you can learn how to slow them down and maybe even stop them before they get to rock bottom.
I have fallen into this wicked trap of the Summertime Slide way too many times over the years. Yep, once a year that little reminder comes along that
I am only Human. LOL .
These days though, the landslide doesn't usually go all the way to the bottom. I still may start the slide, but I can stop the slide reasonably quickly nowadays, with the use of my Meditative skills. I have also learnt along the way, not to beat myself up for slipping.
It is scientifically proven, how hard it can be to function normally when the temperature rises to extremes. The optimal Body-Temperature range to function normally is between about 32 & 41 degrease Celsius. Over that we start shutting down.
So, with Summertime approaching, it's time to remember to keep a cool head on our shoulders. Remember to stay hydrated and to do our best to think before we act, especially when tempers start to rise with the heat.
The first and foremost technique I use and teach is, "Breathing". Yeh, I know, you've heard it before . . . . . someone says to you, "just take a breath and cool down for a minute" . Well, it actually can work in a lot of circumstances.
Redirecting your focus onto your Breathing, instantly takes your mind off of the situation and back onto yourself. Yes, it can be that simple. If you truly give it a go. Sometimes it may even help to close your eyes while you do so, (as long as it is safe for you to do so).
It can take as little as 30 seconds for you to calm down, cool off, refocus and be more conscious and mindful. It may take a little longer, depending on the situation of course. If it helps to defuse the heat of a circumstance, then it's gotta be worth a try.
Another technique, is to walk away. Yeh, you've heard that one before too right? "just walk away, it's not worth it".
As you walk away though, don't keep focusing on the situation. Instead, count your steps as you walk away, redirecting your mind away from the heat of the moment. It might only take a handful of steps, or it may need a good long walk. By the time your done, you will feel a sense of calm flowing over you.
If either of those techniques still haven't worked, I like to go somewhere quiet and do a Guided Relaxation Meditation. Listening to someone else talking and guiding you into a place of inner peace can be very beneficial for you and everyone else around you. There are many Meditations out there that range from 5 minutes to 30 minutes or even longer if you feel you need it.
Meditation can be in many different forms. You can do it Anywhere Anytime.
When I was younger, before I knew about Meditation, I used to put on Music, usually it was 3 Suzie Quatro songs, I would sing along and sometimes dance, but when the 3 songs finished, I was calmer and refocused again.
"that is a form (or style) of Meditation" .
I am grateful to have learnt numerous styles of Meditation and I am lucky enough to have the skills to teach or guide other people. It always warms my heart to see the change in people as they learn and grow on their Meditative Journey which I have had the privilege of showing them the way.
In the Studio over the years we have done many different types of Meditations.
some of which are:
Relaxation, Body Scanning, Breathwork, Dance, Painting, Art, Movement,
walking, Wellness, Spiritual, Past Life, Sound Immersion, ......................................
There are so many more and we are always evolving.
I can teach you how at Spiritual Whispers. You don't need any skills, just the willingness to be open and try. Believe you can, and you will.
This Summer, remember to take some time out for yourself and your Emotional/Mental being. Try a Meditative technique to calm yourself.
You don't have to suffer the Summertime Slides, you can control them.
Stay safe, enjoy the change of Season and have a little FUN.
Let the Summertime Slide away on a cool calm breeze.
I look forward to meeting you soon, maybe in a Meditation.
Until then, please remember to take care of yourself and
SMILE it's GOOD for YOU.
Loving Light Leonie-May
